The gravitational pull of Pluto
Can I get a hallelujah and an amen for how absolutely little I care about either how John Kerry was says he was in Cambodia during the Vietnam War but maybe wasn’t, or how George Bush says he fulfilled his National Guard service, but maybe didn’t? I don’t care, I don’t care, I don’t care. All this crap happened 30 years ago and has as little bearing on what’s going on in the world today as the gravitational pull of Pluto has on my pasty white ass as I sit here typing these words.

What I care about is their record since they’ve been in politics. Trust me, people, as far as Bush is concerned, there is absolutely no need to look beyond his presidency and administration to date: There’s enough red meat there to feast through November. Likewise if Kerry’s opponents can’t make hay with his years in the senate, they need to be fired and Kerry needs to get some more competent enemies. It these guys’ policies and political actions that matter and that will affect our lives now, tomorrow and in the future.
Hallelujah. Amen. Everybody go read the rest of John Scalzi’s rant and then bookmark him or subscribe to his feed or whatever; sometimes he is the only sane person talking.

I know he is. I also know that Bush & co. did a stupid publicity stunt involving him flying something he probably doesn’t know how to fly.
Doesn’t mean I have to care about ANY of it.

I think Scalzi needs to lift his head up a bit. The only place I’ve heard about Cambodia is various pundit blogs.
Bush’s radio ads in Seattle focus solely on Kerry’s record in the Senate. I haven’t heard any Kerry ads but I assume that’s because Washington isn’t in play and the Kerry campaign said they weren’t going to spend money in August.

I’m hearing it on the news, and I don’t even watch the damn news. Then again, I live in a town with fifty things named after Bush the First, and any reason to attack Kerry is a reason for a party around here.

Perhaps a Segway built for two that they could battle upon. We need more pertinent folks with more pertinent issues to pursue.

The reason the vietnam stuff is relevent is because Kerry is using it as a campaign focus. I agree that before it didn’t matter, but when you start using it as a reason you would be a good commander in chief, it’s fair game for criticism and investigation.
