Author profile pages in Movable Type

OK, I just had one of those forehead-slapping moments, so I have to share.

I’ve always wanted Movable Type to support author profile pages, so that with multi-author blogs, the name could be linked in the ”posted by…” line. The thing is, it IS supported. Here’s where I feel dumb. (OK, so all the sites I’d seen with author pages were using scripting on top of MT, so I kinda figured they’d kludged it together themselves. Still, feeling dumb.)

All you have to do is replace the MTEntryAuthor tag with MTEntryAuthorLink or MTEntryAuthorEmail. (Documentation) Each author has to edit his/her profile to include an email address and/or URL.

Yes, it really did take me this long to stumble across those tags in the MT docs.

I’m addicted to the NYTimes maps this morning, especially the county bubble view. Hello, population distribution! It’s fascinating to compare this year to 2004.
